And what is this?!

Well, yes, it is the handsome JAG, but he is holding in his hands the parts for the new Dollation server! Yes, we are finally going to go beyond the constraints of our current VPS (Virtual Private Server) and have our own, dedicated server. Merry Christmas, Ruby!
The business-class Internet connection must be installed first, but shortly you will see Dollation go off-line while it is being transferred over to its new home. Yay! Take that, 500 Internal Server Errors!

Just remember: file backup should be like voting in Chicago, i.e., early and often. And also remember to test your backups at regular intervals. Complacency courts failure...

So true, Taffy! We also bought two external, backup drives and we're backing up to the cloud as well. There's no way I'm going to let any of this info get lost! (Well, maybe a few hours in the worst case.)
I use Clonezilla to make exact image copies of my system once a week. It is an open source application supported by the National University in Taiwan. I also make differential backups online to another drive. I can swap the cloned disk in under five minutes then I can run the differential to get me back to near real time.
A friend once joked that hard drives have complete failure as their ultimate goal and try every day to make that happen. Believing otherwise leads one to make unwise decisions and thereby lose everything...

This conversation reminds me of when the site I work for had the "great crash". That was not a pleasant time. Thankfully 95% of the content was able to be restored.
But yay to dedicated server!
